I have some of the best clients! Our Homeowner Spotlight series tells the stories of clients each with unique needs and wants and our journey to find them a space that feels like home. It is my honor and my passion to help my clients find home.
Today we are featuring Bruce and Beth Mayberry. They are the most adorable couple. When they came to me, they had beautiful little Hilde and a small tater tot due to arrive within two months. We knew we’d need to move fast to help them find a place for their growing family. They needed room to run around, a space for Bruce to make an in-home office, and a project for Beth, who is a full-time blogger. It was surprising to us all when we went to tour properties that same day and found the perfect fit for them… on the West side, right by both of their parents!
The home had good bones and curb appeal that was just dying to be refound. It needed a clean, updated kitchen, all new flooring and someone with a little vision. Fortunately, Bruce and Beth were the perfect fit… and the home they’ve created is absolutely stunning!
The Mayberrys
Bruce & I met at Summer Camp (at Eagle Lake Camp) in high school 15 years ago! We instantly became friends and spent several summers during college working at the same camp together but didn’t start dating until after college! We we’re married just shortly after that in 2012. We have two beautiful girls who are 17 months apart! It is magical and challenging all at the same time but we wouldn’t want it any other way! As Colorado (and Westside) natives, we are passionate about the outdoors, local life, and enjoying this beautiful city!
The Wishlist
It’s a funny story really, but we didn’t know how invested we were in moving from our current townhome. It was meeting our needs for the most part. So if we were going to leave that home, our new one HAD TO have a garage and a yard (things we were lacking) as well as more bedrooms and an open living space! There also needed to be a place for Bruce to work since he works from home and the potential to build or use an outbuilding was a HUGE plus!
Saying Yes
We walked into exactly three houses (all in one day) with Jessica. This was the third house and it was trashed. The listing online didn’t even include ANY indoor pictures because it was being sold as is with “great potential.” But after 15 minutes of walking around, trying not to touch things and see what the space looked like beyond the junk & neon colors, I turned to Bruce in the car and said “Well do you think we should put in an offer on it?!” HAHA! It just felt like home. The view and location we’re unmatched and with a little love, this house could be a whole new place!
Favorite Space
Our favorite space is probably our living room or our backyard but I also love the nursery and our master. So all of them? Haha! The photo wall in our living room just makes me smile and we worked so hard on our backyard to make it a beautiful place to play which is the best with two littles and COVID.
Favorite Project
My husband would say the backyard but I am going to say my photo wall! I just LOVE having family photos in the house and I think having the shelf stretch the entirety of the wall just is so fun!
Future Plans
Where do I start? We need to finish updating our Kitchen and I want to wall paper a couple walls to give our house more life. The dinning room and playroom are still works in progress. And then one day we want to rework our roofline and add a porch off our master bedroom to take advantage of the beautiful, uninterrupted view of Pikes Peak we have!
Family & Pets
When we moved in, I was 7 months pregnant with my second daughter and my oldest was almost a year and a half. This space is for them as much as it is for us! We loved how the main living spaces are all on the main level and in an open concept! Now with an 8 month old and a 2 year old, it is so nice to have the space for them to play and the ability to see them even if I am making dinner in the kitchen!
Bruce also made a sandbox in the backyard and that is a HUGE hit with our toddler!
Favorite Part
I want to say when our offer got accepted but that was really just the beginning of it all (and also we felt a bit like “what have we done?!?”) The best part was when we moved in after doing demo and updates! It wasn’t livable when we bought it, but after a month of hard work, it was so fun to see the vision come to life!
Working with Jessica
Jessica is the best. I don’t say this lightly. I have known so many realtors and they just really can be hit or miss. The lady who sold us our first house was fine - she did a good job - but we wen’t compelled to tell all our friends about her or even use her again. Jessica is different. She goes above and beyond and fights for her clients. She is knowledgeable, engaging, kind, smart, and confident. We tell everyone they need to work with her because she is just that good! We always felt like she was on our team and we could reach out about anything and we appreciated that so very much!
Oak + Oats
While we are highlighting the Mayberrys, I wanted to also share that Beth is also a local blogger and photographer! You can find her online at www.oakandoats.com and on Instagram @oakandoats! I love when I get to work with another fellow #GirlBoss!
My time working with Bruce and Beth to find a home was shorter than most… since we found the ‘winner’ on day 1. But I love that they live in the neighborhood and we’ve found many ways to keep in touch since then! As an added bonus, it’s been so much fun to see sweet Millie join the Mayberry bunch! Thank you Bruce and Beth for bringing so much joy into my job! I can’t wait to see all the other fun projects you will do to transform the house.
