It’s feeling like Spring here in Colorado - fresh snows followed by warm, sunny days and I’m getting excited for this new season. Winter brought lots of new families into new homes and we are so excited to share more of those stories with you! If you don’t already, make sure you are following me on Instagram - I’m always posting there even when I am not blogging here!
I’m happy to introduce to you the Garrett family!
This adorable family came to me in search of a little more space. They wanted some land where they could spread out a bit and take their turn at hosting a hobby farm… with goats and chickens and all the fun farm animals. They love to entertain family and friends during Bronco’s games and needed a large space for family movie nights. We were able to snatch this charming home in Black Forest, complete with a goat barn, beautiful forest trees and the perfect amount of space to create new family memories.
THE GARRETTS
Jason and I have been married for 22 years and have 3 kids - Kennedy (20), Tucker (17) and Addison (14). Jason is in Law Enforcement and is in the Air Force National Guard. I am the Connections Director at Pulpit Rock Church. We love spending time together doing just about anything - watching sports and movies, playing games, joking, and eating good food.
THE WISHLIST
The most important thing was to have some breathing room. It is so nice to have a little bit of land to enjoy. We have a big extended family that is very close as well as a group of friends we do life with and we wanted to space to be together. Our previous house's layout was not conducive to having people in the same general area.
SAYING YES
This house had the feeling of getting away from the city, but being close enough to not make huge changes to a busy family life. We loved the area and the way the house is situated on the property as well as all the quirks that we could adapt and make our own - it just felt right.
FAVORITE SPACE & PROJECT
We opened up the front room area and added banquette seating in the kitchen which makes the kitchen/dining room/living room area our favorite space! We've been able to host the family for Thanksgiving and everyone can congregate in the same area and enjoy one another. We can cook, eat, talk and relax all in one place. It also opens up to the porch which we love.
FUTURE PLANS
We plan to continue to re-landscape the outdoor spaces, to keep it forest-y but more put together. We have tossed around the idea of adding mini goats or a mini donkey to our current chicken flock which would be fun! And at some point, we would like to add a master bath suite.
FAMILY & PETS
Tucker has enjoyed practicing photography in the forest - with appearances by our neighbors cows, the deer, and beautiful skies at sunrise and sunset. Addison and friends have camped out in the yard for sleepovers and spent hours on the trampoline. Our dog Cleopatra loves the space to run around to her hearts content.
FAVORITE PART
Our favorite part of this whole thing was dreaming and searching for the best space for our family!
WORKING WITH JESSICA
Jessica was the biggest encouragement and help in our process. I didn't believe we could sell our old house and was skeptical that we could find what we dreamed of on our budget. She was a cheerleader and a hard worker, driving far and wide to look at properties with us. Helping us dream of what could be and envision what it would take to make a house our home. We are beyond grateful for the way she worked with us!
The Garrett family was so fun to work with and you can truly feel the love in their home. They welcomed me in with open arms to help them sell the home where they raised their children and made so many warm memories and then set out in search of a new one. And I feel truly honored that they chose me.
