Hey There!
Now that you have met me and know a little about what I do, I’m going to give you a little insight of how I work with my design clients.
I’m sure we have all at some point in time turned on the television and got sucked into one of those home improvement shows. We sit there imagining what we could do to our homes, we analyze the styles we love...the styles we hate. Down the rabbit hole we go! Some of us even hop on Pinterest and create boards of our dream homes, rooms and decor. The thing is, that most people spend all this time coming up with ideas but just don't know how to make into a reality. That is where I come in!
First, I start by looking at your home which is already filled with items that portray your style and elements that you like & love. What colors and tones do you lean to? What decorations have you invested in? What style best portrays YOU! My goal is to have your home be your oasis and be designed in a way that matches your personal style (not someone else's)! Let me be honest here, we all see Joanna Gaines and think, “Oh, I want shiplap on everything!” but the reality may be that your style actually screams mid-century modern and not cottage chic.
Then things get a little personal, in the best kind of way! I am going to ask you a ton of questions like: What do you do in the evenings and weekends? Do you work from home? Do you have kids or pets? These questions are designed so I can make your space more functional and convenient, not just prettier. Sometimes, spouses have radically different preferences. While one may like modern and shiny new fixtures, the other may enjoy a more rustic and worn look. What I try to do, is blend them and incorporate things that are important to both & find a happy medium.
Now that I have an understanding of what your style is, I focus on layout design and functionality in the area. If we know that your family prefers to eat lunch in the kitchen and you rarely use a the table, then I know that maybe a large island with seating may be a good choice for the space. From there I pull different color and material options together and present several different routes we can go with your project. I will bring you samples of the material choices. This is where you get to use some of your senses! You get to touch and feel the materials, you can smell them if you like, whatever floats your boat! But lets refrain from tasting! :)This is also where things get all techy and fun! I will create a digital display with the different routes we could take and incorporate the samples I have brought to you.
I do this for two reasons:
1. It narrows down the choices to all things that will look good together. This reduces the stress of walking into a showroom with thousands of choices.
2. You can see the products in your space with your other items (furniture, decor, etc.) and in the lighting where it is actually going to be. Which let me tell you is HUGE. Lighting can impact materials in a huge way.
Once you have chosen your materials, design and we have created the best space for you and your family it is time to get things done! This is where the contractors come in and get work done! Renovation times can vary depending on the scope of the project but we will work those details out!
We then reveal to you a space that is not only beautiful but functional and perfect for your family!
