It is the most wonderful time of the year! I love decorating for Christmas, spending time with family & friends, and Celebrating the birth of our Savior! As a designer and lover of a well-curated home, decorating for the seasons is one of my favorite things. It is so fun to bring out the boxes from storage and switch up the decor of our home to help get into the Christmas spirit. Here’s a little sneak peek into our craziness.
Christmas is a holiday centered around family in our home. A lot of my Christmas decor is tied to traditions and memories. My sister made the advent calendar I hang around our doorway every year that is filled with fun daily Christmas activities to do with the family - they are simple little things… like making an ornament crafted from Popsicle sticks, drinking hot cocoa by the fire, or driving around to see Christmas lights with friends. They seem simple enough, but each day, my kids run down to the advent calendar to open the envelope and see which memory they will get to create together. And while many people may view this as “one more thing to do” in a hectic and busy season, it’s actually the thing that slows us down and helps us to remember what the season is for… spending time together and cherishing the people we love.
My husband and daughter set up the little village under the TV every year and collect new additions to make the village bigger! The stockings are hung by the fireplace for everyone of us. The mistletoe hangs where I can steal a kiss from my husband, the nativities remind us the true reason for the season, and the elves cause mischief in our kitchen through the month of December.
Remember when you decorate for the seasons, you also decorate for you and the people who live in your home. Let the decorations you collect mean something to you. Those are the decorations you are going to continue to put up year after year. Those are the things that are going to be worth the money!
